Speech and Drama
What is Speech and Drama?
Our 'Speech and Drama' programme concentrates on the NZ Speech and Drama syllabus. We focus on prepared and impromptu activities that we engage with individually or in small groups. These activities include, but are not limited to, poetry, prose, devising, public-speaking, speeches, presentations, improvisation, storytelling, and commentary. This 'Speech and Drama' programme is taught by a qualified Drama teacher.

We have two programmes available:
Mini Speech and Drama: 7 - 12 years
Senior Speech and Drama: 13 - 17 years
What are the benefits of attending 'Speech and Drama'?
It is a great experience that builds self-confidence, resilience, and effective communication skills. If you have a shy or anxious child who needs support with their communication and/or social skills, our 'Speech and Drama' programme is a great way to boost their confidence using these skills. It is also a great programme designed for excellent speakers and performers to thrive.
Are there performance and examination opportunities?
Yes. We have ensured all of our students have a chance to shine and showcase their work by performing in an end of year showcase. This will be held in Term 4 at the Te Awamutu Little Theatre.

'Speech and Drama' Examinations are available for any students who wish to undergo 'Speech and Drama' grading. Enrolments take place midyear. Enquire for more information.
Drama Club
What is Drama Club?
Our Drama Clubs are designed for like-minded children and teenagers to come together and enjoy the Performing Arts. Packed with improvisation, scriptwriting, creating/devising, and small production opportunities. Each Drama Club will learn how to build their acting techniques and feel a sense of accomplishment as they work together to put on a show. The Drama Club is managed by a qualified Drama teacher.

All genders, ages and abilities welcome. Come along to try something new and fun!

It is a great opportunity for like-minded theatre kids to come together and have fun acting. Our Drama Clubs boost self-confidence, resilience, and a sense of community. If you have a shy or anxious child who needs to build friendships, this is also a great opportunity for them to develop their communication and/or social skills.
Our Drama Club is also a great programme designed for confident actors and performers to thrive. There are opportunities available to be a part of live performance and/or Community Theatre.

Are there performance and examination opportunities?
If you are an IB or NCEA students and the performance aligns with IB or NCEA criteria, you are welcome to present a recording to your teacher to use for assessment. This includes IB, NCEA unit standards and NCEA achievement standards. It is at your teacher's discretion whether they assess the piece of work.
