Tovah's tutoring says don't be brief
Don't race through your NCEA exam. Answer your NCEA exam questions in depth.

Make sure you don't answer your NCEA exam questions briefly

It is common for NCEA students to answer a question in one or two sentences. That's a big no, no!

Make sure you discuss your answers properly. A good paragraph should include an opening statement, examples, evidence (quote), followed by a discussion which connects to the author/director, wider world, social or historical influences and/or yourself.

tovah's tutoring says have a good structure
Have a proper structure and don't ramble in your NCEA exams

Make sure you don't ramble without a structure

Rambling without a paragraph structure can result in a few different ways; you may repeat yourself, you may not answer the question completely, or you may not get to the point.

A great structure I use in my NCEA exam prep study sessions is S.E.E.D

This stands for:
  • S: Statement

  • E: Example

  • E: Evidence

  • D: Discussion

We practice this process, and you will develop a strong paragraph structure and a variety of NCEA exam answer ideas to use in your NCEA exams.

tovah's tutoring says plan first
Plan first! NCEA exam answers should have a structure

Make sure you don't answer without a plan

I understand that you have a time limit and that it is important to get stuck in. But taking the time to plan will improve your answer structure and will mean you can decide what points you will make, what evidence you have to use to reinforce your opinions, and you can also prioritise an order of making your points as well.

If you don't plan you can end up rambling, you can go off on a tangent, or not answer the question completely. So, get in the habit of planning. It is so useful to plan!

tovah's tutoring guessing exam answers is a no no
